Editors of the journal Optics Letters published by the Optical Society of America (OSA) awarded the latest publication “High-speed fiber scanning endoscope for volumetric multi-megahertz optical coherence tomography” (https://www.osapublishing.org/ol/abstract.cfm?uri=ol-43-18-4386) by Hinnerk Schulz-Hildebrandt for its quality and relevance (Editors’ Pick). The paper describes a newly developed flexible endoscope which enables volumetric imaging at 6 Hz and 10 µm resolution. This technical development is an important step towards the clinical application of optical coherence tomography (OCT) in endoscopy. The aim of this development, which is also funded by the German Center for Lung Research (DZL), is, among other things, imaging in the lower respiratory tract.
