The Purple Dot Illusion uses the color #FF0066. The illusion works, while the center of our vision less responsive for blue light is. Here you can find out how much the color perception is changing.
How to run a match
- Pick a center color using the color picker or HEX box (both RGB and HEX are shown).
- The outer color automatically uses the center’s R and G.
- Use the “Blue (outer)” slider to change only the B value (0–255) until the color of the center and outer looks as uniform as possible.
- When satisfied, note the displayed Outer value (RGB + HEX). Optionally record it for later comparison.
Tip
This might not work when eye comfort mode (blue light filter) is activated. Try viewing it on both desktop and mobile, design adapts automatically. You can also rerun the test multiple times; the order of colors is randomized each session.
Why this is interesting?
With R and G held constant, you’re probing how much Blue is needed for the outer field to appear similar to the center. Comparing matches across different centers can reveal patterns in your own color appearance, adaptation, and display behavior. (This is an exploratory tool, not a clinical test.)
